John Wesley Ferguson was born on July 1st, 1955 to the parentage of Bishop Cephas Ferguson and the late Clothilda Ferguson. He is the first of nine siblings. He attended the Teacher Sands Pre-school, Woodcock Primary School,Western Junior and Senior Schools, Oakes Field Secondary School and graduated from the Prince William High School in June 1972.Â
He enlisted in the Royal Bahamas Police Force on the 29th January,1973 and held numerous leadership and command positions during his exciting career. He has travelled extensively around the world and attended many courses in advanced leadership including courses at the training school of The Independent Commission Against Corruption In Hong Kong and the Haggai Institute in Hawaii. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Virginia. He is the recipient of numerous awards, medals and commendations and retired from The Royal Bahamas Police Force with the Rank of Assistant Commissioner after completing 40 years of unbroken service. Upon his retirement from the Force he joined the staff of the Central Bank of the Bahamas as the Chief Security Officer and retired from that institution as Security Consultant. He is also one of Her Majestyâs Justice of the Peace for The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
Pastor Ferguson has been a licensed minister in The Church of God of Prophecy for over twenty five years and held numerous positions such as Sunday School Teacher, and Youth Director. He has preached in churches in New Providence and the Family Islands and has ministered in the United States and India. He is a legend in The Bahama Brass Band and was a featured Saxophonist during the 50th Anniversary of the Band at the General Assembly in Cleveland Tennessee. He is the founder of Big Harvest Community Sunday School in the inner city of New Providence that caters specifically to at risk youth and underprivileged children and is known nationally and internationally for its âAnnual Sunday School Rally In The Alleyâ. He presently serves under National Appointment as âCommunity Missions Pastorâ for the Church of God of Prophecy in New Providence and recently ordained to the office of Bishop.
He is married to Debbie M. Ferguson, nee, Goodman of Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera and is the father of two children. Daughter, Johnette Ferguson-Morris, son Rashad, son-in law, Lavardo Morris and granddaughter Laniya Morris. He is also the surrogate father to a whole community of children.
He lives by the Philosophy of the great English-Christian Theologian, John Wesley, whom he is named after. âI shall only pass this way but once I must do all the good that I can By all the means that I can In all the places that I can At all the times that I can To all the people that I can As long as I can For I shall not pass this way againâ
